India in a State of Grave Emergency

For the past fifty years or so war has played an insignificant part in keeping down the population and there has been a considerable increase in the number of the people, but disease and poverty still exercise their baneful sway over the country in spite of the efforts of legislators and philanthropists. The vicious circle which has existed for ages still continues, disease causes poverty and poverty causes disease. The state of affairs is so miserable that it is only the anodyne of fatalism that has enabled the people to endure their sufferings with resignation.
